Leonard Cohen


Born in Montreal in 1934 into a Conservative Jewish family, at fifteen came upon a book of poetry by Lorca, which “ruined” his life, claims Cohen, meaning it launched him into a lifetime dedicated to poetry. By the mid- 1950s, however, he also had discovered the music of Ray Charles, Hank Williams, and Elvis Presley and formed his own country and western band, The Buckskin Boys.
